  6. Aquest programa tradueix fitxers Macintosh ASCII (tipus ‘TEXT’) a 
  7. fitxers ISO Latin-1. D’aquesta manera els documents que contenen 
  8. caràcters especials (documents escrits en francès, català o castellà, 
  9. per exemple) poden traduir-se i enviar-se a un servidor gopher en una 
  10. màquina UNIX i veure’s correctament amb qualsevol client gopher que 
  11. complisca l’estàndard ISO Latin-1, com TurboGopher. (Òbviament, no es 
  12. necessita el MacToISO si s’utilitza un servidor gopher en el 
  13. Macintosh: aquest faria les traduccions per si mateix.)

  15. Instruccions d’ús

  18. Fes doble clic sobre la icona del MacToISO. La caixa de diàleg 
  19. informativa es visualitzarà durant dos segons, i després es podra 
  20. seleccionar un d’aquests dos comandaments del menú ‘File’:
  21.  
  22. ‘Mac >> ISO’ (comandament-I). Se’t demanarà un fitxer d’entrada (que 
  23. hauria de ser un fitxer ASCII Macintosh), i després un nom per al 
  24. fitxer d’eixida codificat en ISO Latin-1. Quan acaba la traducció, el 
  25. Mac et demanarà un altre fitxer d’entrada. Quan ja no en tingues més 
  26. per traduir, fes clic en el botó de cancel.lació.

  28. ‘ISO >> Mac’ (comandament-O). Fa la traducció inversa. Funciona de la 
  29. mateixa manera que l’anterior.

  31. Per a abandonar el programa es pot fer comandament-Q (o triar 
  32. l’entrada ‘Quit’ del menú ‘File’.

  37. El funcionament de MacToISO 1.0.1ß s’ha comprovat en un Mac IIfx i un 
  38. Mac IIsi amb el sistema 7.01, i en un Mac Plus amb el sistema 6.07.

  40. Les (poques) cadenes que fa servir el programa es guarden en el 
  41. fitxer de recursos de l’aplicació (recursos STR# IDs 100 i 200). Així 
  42. que són fàcilment personalitzables.

  44. Hi ha dues taules de traducció. El recurs TRLT anomenat “ISO” conté 
  45. un byte amb el codi ISO Latin-1 per a cada caràcter del Mac, en ordre 
  46. (són 256 bytes). El recurs TRLT anomenat “Mac” conté un byte amb el 
  47. codi Macintosh per a cada caràcter ISO Latin-1, en ordre (256 bytes 
  48. més). Crec que TurboGopher fa servir taules similars.

  53. L’UJI Gopher Team (no oficial) ha instal.lat un servidor gopher UNIX 
  54. i un nombre de clients Macintosh. És per això que hem desenvolupat la 
  55. utilitat MacToISO per al nostre propi ús (gràcies al Symantec Think 
  56. C). Però creiem que pot resultar útil a altres persones amb 
  57. necessitats semblants (servidor gopher UNIX, clients Macintosh, 
  58. llenguatges llatins).

  72. This Mac program translates ASCII Macintosh files (type 'TEXT') into 
  73. ISO Latin-1 files. Therefore, documents containing international 
  74. characters (documents written in French, Catalan or Spanish, for 
  75. instance) can be translated and sent to a UNIX gopher server, and 
  76. they will be seen properly with any ISO Latin-1 compliant gopher 
  77. client, like TurboGopher. (Obviously, you don't need MacToISO if you 
  78. use a Mac gopher server: it does the translation for you.)

  80. How to use it
  81. -------------

  83. Double click the MacToISO icon. The About dialog will show up for two 
  84. seconds, and then you can select one of two commands in the file 
  85. menu:

  87. 'Mac >> ISO' (command-I). This will ask you for an input ASCII Mac 
  88. file and then for an output ISO file name. After finishing the 
  89. translation, the Mac will ask you for a new input file. When you are 
  90. done, click the 'Cancel' button.

  92. 'ISO >> Mac' (command-M). This does the opposite translation, and 
  93. works in the same way.

  95. You can quit the program with command-Q.

  97. Technical notes
  98. ---------------

  100. MacToISO 1.0.1ß has been tested on a Mac IIfx and a Mac IIsi running 
  101. System 7.01, and on a MacPlus running System 6.07.
  102.  
  103. The (few) strings used by MacToISO are stored in the application's 
  104. resource fork (STR# resources ID 100 and 200). So, it can be easily 
  105. customized.
  106.  
  107. There are two translation tables. TRLT resource named "ISO" contains 
  108. a byte with the ISO Latin-1 code for each Mac character, in order 
  109. (256 bytes). TRLT resource named "Mac" contains a byte with the Mac 
  110. code for each ISO Latin-1 character, in order (256 bytes). I think 
  111. TurboGopher uses similar tables.

  116. The unofficial UJI (Universitat Jaume I, Castelló, Spain) Gopher Team 
  117. has installed a UNIX gopher server and a number of Macintosh clients. 
  118. So, we have developed the MacToISO utility for our own use (thanks to 
  119. Symantec Think C). But we think it can be useful to other people with 
  120. similar needs (UNIX gopher server, Mac clients, Latin languages).
